Covid-19 has changed the world of work and the way forward needs to be properly considered as we move forward. That was the general consensus of guests on the latest edition of Over the Hump.
This was most clearly illustrated as we heard from two school teachers who detailed the kind of stress they are under as they deal with teaching remotely, struggling with uncooperative parents and juggling their own family lives with a new demanding schedule.
Over the Hump featured organisational development consultant Anthony Watkins, Ansa McAL Group Director HR Teresa White, BIGWU general secretary Trevor Johnson, communications specialist Nicole Duke-Westfield and public mental health professional Caroline Ravello also spoke about the way forward for organisations and employees.

Anthony Watkins, Ansa McAL Group made so many interesting comments on considerations when it comes to working from home. Some may apply to particular Industries more than others but all worth thinking about as we chart a way forward.
The issue of pandemic leave, I personally think more work is needed. Many things are not fully addressed. Situations of persons who may have a dependent who may be in quarantine or maybe infected and needing care may affect a person who is the breadwinner in the family.

The experience of the two teachers is quite interesting and very telling. There is a gap in my view where the ministry of education can play a critical role in helping parents and teachers to connect. I know of a child in a government secondary school in Port of Spain in an upper form and to date not a single one of his teachers have reached out to him or his classmates to offer worksheets, lessons plans etc. the parent is currently paying for him to get lessons for his respective subjects. So there are many different experiences being faced by parents and teachers.
